Highlands under the Red Framework


Highlands is open and operating in the new Covid-19 Protection Framework


From Friday 3rd December 2021, New Zealand is moving to the new ‘Covid-19 Protection Framework’, commonly known as the traffic light system.

As we have done since the first COVID outbreak in 2020, we have been implementing the COVID Alert Levels and subsequently will be continuing with the Covid Protection Framework Traffic Light System, as mandated by the Government, for the safety of our team and customers.   A snapshot of what this looks like at the different colours can be viewed HERE.

To meet our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and to protect our team members, customers, and the ongoing viability of our business, we are implementing the traffic light system, which will require the official My Vaccine Pass.   In short, this legally requires every single person over the age of 12 years and 3 months, coming on site to show an official ‘My Vaccine Pass’.

You will appreciate that we have heard the announcement at the same time as the rest of New Zealand, and we are working as quickly as we can to tweak our operations to meet our legal requirements.  We appreciate the ongoing challenges that a global pandemic brings, and while some people may have differing personal views,  we have a responsibility to abide by the legal requirements of the Traffic Light System.  

The COVID-19 Protection Framework signals a new chapter in NZ’s response to COVID-19. The new Framework allows businesses to open and operate in a way that is as close to normal for vaccinated people while minimising the virus’ spread.  This helps keep vulnerable people and those that can’t be vaccinated right now safe.

From Friday 3rd December 2021, everyone aged over 12 years and 3 months will be legally required to present a ‘My Vaccine Pass’ for verification by a member of our team.  This is in addition to signing in for contact tracing purposes.  

If you do not already have a ‘My Vaccine Pass’, you can get one from My Covid Record | Ministry of Health NZ.

We are committed to getting as many people back over all aspects of our park, with as many mates as they want, as often as they like, no matter what part of NZ they are from, as soon as we possibly can.

Anyone 12 years and older are required to wear a face covering when visiting Highlands. The face covering will need to be an actual mask. This means scarves, bandannas, buffs, or t-shirts should not be used. 

You will be required to present your My Vaccine Pass upon arrival to the Park. This will be verified by our staff using the official NZ Pass Verifier app.

There are QR Codes at each entrance. It is a requirement of visiting Highlands that you scan in using the government Covid Tracing App. Our team will be asking if you have done this at each entry point.

You will notice additional hand sanitising stations throughout the Park. Please use these to sanitise your hands as you enter Highlands.

We will be following government requirements on maximum numbers of people permitted onsite. We strongly recommend making bookings, this can be done online or over the phone – 03 445 4052.

The Highlands Cafe is open and will be following the requirements of seated service and separated from other groups. You may remove face masks when eating and drinking however we require you to wear a mask when entering and exiting, using the bathroom or paying for items.

The above is subject to ongoing change due to any new government requirements.

Since COVID-19 emerged, Highlands has adopted our health & safety practices in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at our venues.


For activity bookings: In the event of an amendment to your booking, refunds will only be granted when Highlands has received at least 24 hours’ notice prior to your booking date. Within 24 hours of your scheduled reservation, any cancellations will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
