Eat. Taste. Central

Highlands Cafe has entered into the Central Otago Eat.Taste.Central campaign.  This is E.T.C’s fourth successful year of promoting Central Otago’s amazing produce and producers.  E.T.C is a month long event where you can take your palate to somewhere it hasn’t been before.  Local cafès, restaurants and cellar doors collectively produce a ‘Central Otago Regional Menu’ that celebrates the region.  With its narrow seasonal windows of risk, Central Otago grows some of the world’s finest flavours and produce. Soft buttery walnuts, pure thyme honey, creamy cheeses, peppery olive oil. All washed down with a lovingly crafted local beer or sampled with a boutique Central Otago wine.

The campaign has had a huge response from so many venues from across the region, with an amazing 84 dishes and events on offer. A record for the event, and very encouraging in the current environment.

The new element for 2020 is that we are running an “ETC Passport” where locals and visitors will be able to collect stickers from participating venues/events, they will then be able to redeem for rewards and go in the draw for a series of prizes.

This year Highlands amazing chef Tamara Trent has produced two menu entries into E.T.C.

Brunch category – Highlands Brunch

Toasted Ciabatta, poached free range eggs, pork and fennel sausages, tomato roasted in Lindis Gold honey and thyme,

Crispy bacon along with Tavish’s nectarine and ginger chutney.

Local products: The Fridge Butchery, Lindis Gold Honey, Tavish’s Kitchen, Basil, Parsley & Partners

Sweets and Deserts category – Apricot and Hazelnut Slice

Tangy apricot slice with crunchy honeyed hazelnut topping.

Local products: Benjer Drinks Co, Lindis Gold Honey and Central Nuts.
