Scott McLaughlin Book Launch

In a whirl wind four day book launch tour commencing on the 20th June through to the 23rd June, 2018 V8 Supercar champion, Scott McLaughlin and our Chief Operations Officer Josie Spillane travelled almost the length of New Zealand sharing Scott’s story – The Road to Redemption.  The pair visited our sister track Hampton Downs, Game Over Auckland and Queenstown AND Repco outlets in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Frankton.

During this jam packed few days Scott managed to enjoy Go Kart races at Game Over Auckland and Queenstown, as well as here at Highlands in some wintery (frosty) conditions.  Arriving to Queenstown on the 22nd June in the thick of the 2019 Winter Festival, Scott was treated to a thrilling jet boat ride with KJET where he even ended up driving the boat!!

Over the Top Helicopters then flew him to a peak 1400m above sea level.  Overlooking Queenstown, Scott took a swing at Over the Top’s famous hole in one experience before delivering him and Josie to Highlands in preparation for the book launch event at the Museum that evening.

Over 200 people came to the Museum from far and wide to listen to Scott, meet him and have their books plus other items signed – including a few jandals!  The evening was a great success with everyone leaving with a smile and fond memories of Scott.  Many guests commented about how lovely and down-to-earth Scott is.  One of the lucky guests – Steve from Gore, even won a ride in Tony Quinn’s Porsche with Scott driving on the track for the following day!  Lucky Steve!

Highlands Motorsport Park Museum
There was a great turn out at the museum signing, with a few jandals being signed.

But the trip wasn’t over yet!  The following morning, 10 competition winners to race Scott in the Go Karts here at Highlands, gathered to try their luck.  The track was pretty slippery to start with but slowly the speeds increased.  Scott ended up taking out the top spot on the podium with a local chap, David Rule a close second, and Jordan Michels (a Go Kart racer himself) third.

Lucky Steve from Gore helped finish off Scott’s final hours with us with their laps around the Highlands track in Tony’s Porsche in perfect conditions.  I’m sure this will be an experience Lucky Steve will not forget in a hurry!

It was a true privilege for the Highlands team to share this experience with Scott and we are absolutely certain Josie will always cherish those hectic 80 hours she spent with Scott McLaughlin!
